Just landed - more of these popular charm packs, now with more colour variety and more printed fabrics.
This fantastic potluck selection of 100 x 10cm charm squares has twenty different fabrics with five squares of each (occasionally, these groups of five may include two or three colours for more variety). These are all great quality fabrics, still including taupes like the original packs I had, but now with far more prints and more colours - there are plaids, Jacquards etc., but some packs look to be all sarasa style prints (the Japanese version of Indian chintz), and colours include yellows, deep reds, blues, greens, purples etc. All cut and packed for you by Olympus Thread Mfg. Co., Japan.
I opened a couple of packs yesterday to make up a simple patchwork sample for the shop. Some of the more colourful fabrics are discontinued Azumino cottons, fabrics I remember Olympus having around 25 years ago, which are printed with sashiko designs in wash out gold and silver - what a bonus! Azumino cotton is fully reversible, so if you don't want to use the sashiko designs in your project, just flip the pieces over. If you do, I would suggest piecing the squares first and then stitching the small areas of sashiko. If you wanted to make coasters, stitch the sashiko first, but avoid stitching within 1/2in of the edge, and sew the a backing fabrics onto each coaster with a 1/4in seam.
What will you make with yours? I have an idea for a very simple checker board quilt using two packs, 14 x 14 squares (196 squares) with the remaining four squares used as cornerstones.
Many of the fabrics are still thicker ‘linen look’ fabrics, 100% cotton, so I will be taking slightly larger seam allowances than my usual quarter inch to allow for slight fraying. This would make the simple quilt I just described approx. 136cm square. Of course, for a boro inspired bag, I would want some interesting frays…
I have listed these separately from the original packs that I have because they do have a slightly more colourful overall appearance – plus of course many more print fabrics.

NB - exact fabrics in pack WILL vary! Some packs may look thicker than others, which is entirely due to the thickness of the fabrics in each assortment.
