Here are all the sashiko sampler squares I stock, aka hanafukin (flower cloths), printed in Japan by Olympus Thread Mfg. Co. on one page! There's almost 90 of them, so keep scrolling...Designs include traditional geometric designs, floral patterns, ukiyo-e woodblock prints, hitomezashi (one stitch sashiko), and kagurizashi (threaded hitomezashi), plus 'just dots' for creating your own hitomezashi patterns.
Easy to follow instruction diagrams with Japanese text (sometimes English, depending on the design). The ideal introduction to sashiko.Hanafukin are used like a cross between a napkin, placemat, and dish cloth, but the traditional sarashi cotton fabric is also suitable for bags, cushions, quilts etc. What will you make and which pattern will you choose?
