PRINT QUALITY ISSUE WITH SOME OLYMPUS SASHIKO SAMPLER PANELS SENT OUT SINCE START OF JULY 2026
Olympus Thread Mfg. Co. advised me today (7th October 2026) that there is a problem with the batch of ink used to print some of their sashiko sampler hanafukin panels recently! The print doesn't stay on very well while you are stitching the panel, and starts to rub off while stitching the design. All the panels affected were printed on the indigo blue cloth - none of the white or other colours are affected.
The affected panels were sent to me since the beginning of July and are -
Placemats - L2003, L2010, L2011, L2012, L2013, L2014, L2015
Sashiko Sampler hanafukin (square panels) - H2014, H238, H2056, H213
No other panels are affected.
This does not mean that EVERY panel I sent out or sold at a show since July is affected, because new stock will have become mixed up with old on my displays, but please check if you have bought any of these panels by rubbing the printing and seeing if it comes off. If it does, please contact me, using the form on my Contact page (so your message goes into the right mailbox and I don't miss it!) and I will arrange to send you a replacement when they arrive from Olympus - this may take a few weeks. NB - there is no need to return your faulty panel! Just check if you have one and let me know.
Olympus have been very apologetic about this and are doing what they can to put it right. I think their staff will be mortified that they sent out a faulty product. Of course, it wasn't until customers started stitching these designs that they discovered the problem, and now I am working with them to put it right for my customers.
I need to contact all my mail order customers - you will be getting a personal email from me if you ordered one of these designs - but I can't trace anyone who bought a panel from me at a show. The events I have been to since I had these panels in my stock are the Japan Scotland Community Cultural Festival in Dumfries, the Newcastle Quilt Show, and the Shambellie Quilt Show. I didn't have the products at earlier events. So if you bought at one of these shows, or have heard from someone who did and is having problems with the designs rubbing off, please let me know!
