This stunning bi-directional design (first photo) is reminiscent of formal women's furisode kimono designs, with the bamboo stems depicted in printed dots to look like kanoko (fawn spot) tie dye, and the bamboo leaves and flowers outlined in gold. The flowers are arranged in front of snowflake outlines, with scattered blossoms escaping across the print, chased by tiny cranes. Full of good fortune and colour. Gleaming gold adds a luxurious warmth to this design. Perfect for adding that authentic touch to your Japanese themed project.
'Matchi', while sounding like 'machi' (town) is also a word loaned into Japanese from English - 'matching' - and there is another print in this range that makes a great coordinate with this one (second photo).
I used a lot of these kinds of prints in my books 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match' and 'Japanese Quilt Inspirations', and they aren't so easy to find at the moment, so I'm always pleased when I spot another design I love.
