Staying with a garden theme but going with a more abstract and retro representation, 'Shadow' is a lush, stylised print from After the Rain by Bookhou, for FreeSpirit, in the purple colourway (first photo), against a dark background. This bold design somehow reminds me of the illustrations of artists like Aubrey Beardsley - maybe if he had been designing patchwork prints today...! I have one other print from this range - 'Butterfly Leaves' in cerulean (second photo).

Printed on patchwork weight cotton, this fabric also makes an unusual coordinate for my sashiko panels, and the colours can be matched from my extensive range of sashiko threads. Free Spirit fabrics are printed on a 68 count cotton rather than the 60 count used for many other brands, meaning they are slightly finer than many patchwork fabrics and are also suitable for making clothing.
