More arriving around New Year - you can order and reserve your bolt now!To go with my new book, Sashiko 365, which was published on 8th November 2022, I have got a limited number of bolts of Olympus no.4500 sashiko fabric which I am selling as WHOLE 5metre bolts, on a special 5% discount.

A new batch of mid indigo blue #108 have been produced by Olympus Thread Mfg. co. , BUT there is a very slight colour difference between the 'old' colour and the 'new'. The new one is very slightly darker. The third photo shows the difference - if you can see it! - with the original colour labelled 'default colour'. I have held back the small amount of the 'old' #108 mid blue I have in stock, in case anyone needs to colour match it. If you need to know whether some #108 you already have is the 'old' shade, if it was sent out prior to 20/11/22, it will be the old colour.

NB - Sorry, UK shipping only due to weight. The bolts will be sent out on their cards, so will be sent as Medium Parcel First Class. Shipping will be charged at the usual UK rate at checkout, as the extra cost for the larger parcel has been factored into the discount price. To stitch all 365 41/2in (11.5cm) sashiko squares in the book requires a minimum of 4.8 metres of fabric, if you don't redo any blocks, which is effecively a whole bolt. Although the Olympus fabrics are very consistent in terms of colour, I advise buying all the fabric you need at the same time to avoid very slight variations in the dye batch. So I am offering a special 5% discount on this fabric. #108 mid indigo blue is the colour I used for the book samples, because the dark indigo #107, which I use in my sashiko classes, can tend to look more like black in photos! But either fabric will look beautiful for your sampler. Choose whichever fabric you like - they will both look lovely!

No.4500 is not a cheap fabric. It is an embroidery cloth quality, rather than a quilting fabric, much thicker than quilting cottons, and absolutely perfect for sashiko - because that's what it is made for! It is easy to mark (I used the Clover White Marking Pen (fine) to mark mine - see below), and easy to stitch.Best for beginners - this is the same fabric that I used for my beginner sashiko workshops, usually in the very dark #107 kon iro indigo shade, the deepest indigo colour. It is quite smooth and easy to mark your own sashiko lines, either with the Clover White Marking Pen (fine), or the Sewline pencil (also great with Clover Chacopy transfer paper for pictorial designs). In my opinion, it is one of the best quality and easiest to stitch sashiko fabrics available today.NB - these are not natural indigo dyes and won't run or rub off as you stitch.110cm wide.

  • Zigzag or overlock the edges before stitching sashiko, as this fabric will fray more than regular patchwork cottons.
