Great value, cotton double gauze has a soft drape. Double gauze is a lovely lightweight pure cotton fabric, relatively loosely woven with a slight natural crinkle texture making it exceptionally breathable with a gorgeous soft handle. Ideal for summer clothing, boro inspired projects, and sashiko - where you want the effect of stitching through two layers (like with the sarashi fabric traditionally used for hanafukin) but where the weave cleverly holds both layers together! At intervals, the threads pass from one layer to another, almost like making tiny stitches. This classic nacy blue colourway is a great substitute for a dark indigo colour.
Multiple layer gauze blankets have become popular for bedding in the increasingly hot Japanese summers, as the fabric is so breatheable. I selected this because it would make a great foundation for a boro inspired summer blanket, using sarashi fabric hanafukin sashiko sampler panels and plain sarashi for additional patches, randomly arranged. As a boro foundation, it would be so easy to stitch. While the generous 135cm (53in) width would be a good size for a sofa throw or a single boro blanket, you could stitch two lengths together with a simple overlap to make a larger blanket.
The incredibly soft drape also makes this a 'go to' fabric for theatre and movie costumes - I spotted that the head wraps and ragged scarves worn by the Fremen desert people in Dune II were often made from double gauze! If you require this in a different colour for costuming, please ask.
