This stunning new large sashiko panel from QH Textiles has a great selection of designs. The latest in their 'Wagara' series, it is printed in bright blue wash out ink on heavier weight 100% cotton natural greige Oxford cloth that's easy to stitch (similar to some of the Olympus kit fabrics)
The panel includes -
- nine large squares that combine traditional sashiko designs and kamon crests.
- four cute panels feauring origami cranes, cats, dragonflies and owls (these would make great place mat centres)
- one long sampler panel with various sashiko designs in hexagons
There's plenty of stitching to keep you busy!
Total panel size is 110 x 112cm, printed across the full width of the fabric.
Also available in mustard yellow and dark indigo blue.
Stitching suggestions for the panel -
There are so many possibilities for these panels. Either stitch it as a complete panel for a wallhanging or as a quilt centre, or cut the panel along the solid lines between the panels and use it to make other things - the panels would be great for projects like place mats, cushion centres, wall hangings, bag panels etc., and for mixing with patchwork panels for quilts. I suggest edging any raw edges with a machine zigzag or narrow overlock stitch to prevent fraying, and cutting the panel into smaller pieces at the beginning if that is how you are going to stitch the panels - it is always easier to stitch a series of small panels rather than one large one.
Thread suggestions -
Either two 6-ply medium mercerised sashiko thread (100m, 40m etc.) used singly, or 4-ply fine sashiko thread (one 370m, two170m etc.) used doubled. These thread quantities are for stitching the panel in just one colour. If you decide to use two or more colours, which would look very effective, you would need more skeins.
