'Scribbled Squares' from On Your Mark by PBS Fabrics is a contemporary design with (I think) a look that goes well with many of my traditional Japanese fabrics, among other things. It is printed in blue on white, with a tiny touch of yellow. 
 
It would make a fresh, modern coordinate for sashiko stitched in white on dark blue, as well as being ideal for patchwork, dressmaking etc.
