One of my four favourite prints from the 'Paradise Blooms' collection by Kirsten Katz for FreeSpirit Fabrics, 'Waratahs' (first photo) is a striking retro print - the Australian watarah flowever reminds me a little of Japanese 'spider mum' chrysanthemums! I thought it would make a nice sashiko coordinate, as well as being a lovely patchwork print or dressmaking detail. Photos 2 to 4 show the other prints I have from this collection, which are all on a much smaller scale.

Printed on patchwork weight cotton, these fabrics make an ideal coordinate for my sashiko panels, and the colours can be matched from my extensive range of sashiko threads. Free Spirit fabrics are printed on a 68 count cotton rather than the 60 count used for many other brands, meaning they are slightly finer than many patchwork fabrics and are also suitable for making clothing.

111cm (44in) wide.
