I have a weakness for colourful, abstract prints, and especially for stylised trees, so this 'Paper Trees' collection designed by Sue Penn for FreeSpirit was essential. I love the trees panel, and the coordinates are rather lush too.
This listing is for the gorgeous 'Spring Leaves' (first photo) which has a subtle kaleidoscope effect created very cleverly by shading and mirroring the motifs and background. It could be cut to create a glowing effect in a block, or to get a huge variety of shading in smaller pieces. Other prints from this range are shown in the other photos.
Printed on patchwork weight cotton, these fabrics would make rich coordinates for some of my sashiko panels, and the colours can be matched from my extensive range of sashiko threads - or you could go for the full rainbow 100m #301 medium sashiko thread. Free Spirit fabrics are printed on a 68 count cotton rather than the 60 count used for many other brands, meaning they are slightly finer than many patchwork fabrics and are also suitable for making clothing.
You can watch Sue Penn introducing her collection here on YouTube - did you guess she designed it by using printed paper and collage?
Storage space constraints meant I couldn't get the whole range, so I have chosen my favourites for you.
