This video from Olympus gives a great tip for adding extra marking lines for hitomezashi sampler designs before you start stitching - just join the dots with a fabric pencil or marker to plot out your design before you begin stitching.
Suitable for all your sashiko stitching, these thread packs would be a great way to explore adding a touch of colour to my sashiko panels, or for colour accents on sashiko sampler hanafukin panels. Also lovely for big stitch quilting, boro style patchwork, blackwork and anywhere a medium, matte thread is required. May be used singly or doubled, great where you want a contrasting bold effect. The mercerisation - where the thread is passed at high speed through a gas flame during the manufacturing process, an innovation imported into the Japanese textile industry in the late C19th, burning off the excess lint - means the thread is smoother and a little less fluffy than the 20m sashiko thread, and slides through your fabric easily, making it the better thread for big stitch quilting, as well as easier for sashiko stitching.
This listing is for one pack of TWENTY x 5m skeins - one of each multicolour. Ideal with the Olympus Thread Mfg. Co. printed sashiko panels as an alternative to the 20m medium sashiko thread (four 5m skeins are equivalent to one 20m skein, so it is easy to work out thread quantities). The fourth photo shows the difference between the medium and fine threads when stitched (the two pink on white samples). The multicoloured sampler shows all the colours.
And if you need more of one colour, I stock all of these in 100m skeins.
The multicolours are among my favourite sashiko threads, as they just seem to make the stitching come alive!
