This coordinated combination of four 40m Awai-iro ('pastel colour') medium sashiko thread colours was inspired by a visit to my friend's country home in the Corrèze department (in the Limousin region of rural France). The 'spring shoots' colourway was actually inspired by seeing white and green asparagus at the local markets, under bright blue skies - #A2 Lemon Chiffon, #A12 lime yellow, #A19 laurier green, and #A14 sky blue. They would make a delicious combination for a sashiko project!
Awai-iro are medium 6-ply sashiko thread in a range of pastel and kusumi (subdued) colours, similar to the non mercerised 20m medium sashiko threads. They are lovely to stitch with.
Ideal with printed sashiko sampler hanafukin panels. Many hanafukin require one skein of thread approx. if used singly, more if used doubled. These colour themed packs are a great choice if you want to vary the colours used on your panel, perhaps coordinating several panels, by using the same selection of thread colours.

'Spring Shoots' four x 40m Awai-iro medium sashiko threads pack
Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point. Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled). Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely. Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
