A selection of ready to stitch sashiko patterns adapted from my book 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match', hand printed by Olympus Thread Mfg. Co. in Japan on their beautiful Kofu Tsumugi 100% cotton (coloured warp, black weft, with tiny slubs). Available in indigo blue, deep red, dark green, ink black, grey (taupe) and light blue (slate blue). Please select colour below. Each stitch is clearly marked, so they are easy to sew.

Each hand-printed pattern is washed away with water and disappears, leaving no mark on the work.  Do not prewash your panel, or all your marks will disappear! The panel's squares are 9 1/2in (24cm) and 4 1/2in (11.5cm) approx.  They can be cut up and used like quilt blocks or stitched as a whole panel (it looks good if the cutting lines are left unsewn, as in the styled photo above). The possibilities are endless!

There is a geometric panel that complements this one, in the same size and colours, plus a NEW geometric and kamon panel released at the end of June 2020.

100% cotton

Size - Approximately 108 cm selvedge to selvedge (print width: 96 cm) x 60cm wide.

NB -

  • Zigzag or overlock (or faux lock) over the cut edges before starting to stitch - all fabrics for sashiko will tend to fray. The edge beyond the dashed lines at the side is the cutting edge of the panel - the panel actually starts on the dashed line.
  • The indigo blue is not botanical indigo and will not run.
  • The dark red colourway is a rich, deep burgundy (not bright pink, as it can look on some monitors!)
  • The light grey colourway is light taupe/beige.
  • The light blue colourway is slate blue or 'airforce blue'.
  • Colours will not run.
  •

Thread suggestions - suitable for any medium or fine sashiko thread. One panel uses approx. 100m sashiko thread used singly, more if doubled or in a combination of doubled and single threads.  The Olympus 100m sashiko thread, available in 14 colours, is ideal.

Needle - Olympus sashiko needles in packs of two or four.
