Printmaker Katherine Watson was inspired by the plants growing in designer her garden and the shapes and symmetry found in nature. The bright colours and bold patterns evoked summer, and she imagined unfurling a quilt on the ground for an outdoor picnic. Each print started with a hand-carved linocut, and the fabric designs features the textures and bold shapes that are a typical feature of lino cuts. I liked these bold, modern prints, with more than a nod towards the traditions of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and designers like William Morris and C F Voysey. Beautiful for patchwork, dressmaking, as a sashiko coordinate, or for anything else where a patchwork weight pure cotton fabric would be suitable.
