A new pattern based on traditional seasonal flower motifs is added to the Olympus hanafukin sashiko sampler kits. The pattern combines seasonal flowers with traditional motifs, so you can enjoy sashiko according to the season. 'Harugasami no botan' (spring peonies - first photo) is the perfect design for springtime, and a refreshing alternative to sakura (cherry blossoms) as a sashiko motif.
 
This pre printed sashiko sampler kit from Olympus Thread Mfg. Co. is called a  'hana fukin' (which literally means 'flower cloth') in Japanese. It is printed in grey on white narrow width traditional sarashi cloth (an easy to stitch traditional Japanese cotton cloth). Each panel is supplied in one piece with a plain area the same size attached, because they are designed to be stitched through both layers and the edges turned in to make a little cloth, but you can stitch the printed layer separately and make them into various other items, such as bags, cushions or quilt panels. They also look great framed.

This listing is for the full kit, so you get the panel, sashiko threads, sashiko needle, and instructions (pictorial and easy to follow) with an English translation. The kit is packed in a ziplock plastic packet, so you can store your sashiko neatly while you are working on it, making it the ideal portable project.
 
Sarashi cloth is quite lightweight compared with other sashiko fabrics, but is very easy to stitch, super absorbent and wears well.  It is one of the fabrics traditionally used for kimono underwear!
