'Indienne Peony Trail in black (first photo) from the Water Garden collection by Sanderson for FreeSpirit Fabrics is inspired by C18th 'Indienne' hand painted Tree of Life chintz designs, but on a true black background in beautifully harmonious blues, teals, greys, purples and pinks. Rich yet very subtle. The black background and the very coordinated colourscheme gives the print a somewhat Gothic look.

Known internationally for their lush florals with a classic British 'country house' style, Sanderson bring a contemporary touch to their designs. The company holds the Royal Warrant and is synonymous with top quality.

Printed on patchwork weight cotton, this fabric makes an ideal coordinate for my sashiko panels, and the colours can be matched from my extensive range of sashiko threads. Free Spirit fabrics are printed on a 68 count cotton rather than the 60 count used for many other brands, meaning they are slightly finer than many patchwork fabrics and are also suitable for making clothing.
