This is a subtle oatmeal taupe coloured cotton fabric from Olympus Thread Mfg. Co., excellent for sashiko, patchwork, bag making and other projects. Part of the Sakizome Momen range (colours are inspired by 'forests, herbs, flowers and earth' colours), it would make a subtle background for sashiko and mix well with fabrics for a boro inspired piece. This fairly light natural shade is perfect for all your Japanese taupe projects - shade OL100B is slightly lighter.

The weave is loose enough to easily stitch sashiko with fine, medium or thick sashiko threads. Ideal for wearables, boro style patchwork, 'French embroidery' (floral embroidery in the style of Japanese embroiderer Alice Makabe) or any project where a subtle naural shade would look good. The relatively low thread count means it is not suitable for detailed patchwor with very small pieces.

  • Zigzag or overlock the edges before stitching sashiko, as this fabric will fray more than regular patchwork cottons.
