This serene print is the 108in (275cm) wide backing in purples, greens and blues from the Whale Song collection by Deborah Edwards and Melanie Samra for Northcott. This has an amazing ombre effect in the pattern (see photos for the whole width), shading from one side to the centre and back again. IMHO, too beautiful to go on the back of a quilt, unless your quilt is reversible!
The fabrics in this collection are digitally printed, so they have all the depth and variation of colour like a batik, but on a fabric base that isn't too tightly woven for hand quilting. It would be great for clothing as well as a patchwork coordinate, or to go with a sashiko panel. I managed to grab a few other designs from this range before they became impossible to get via the wholesalers, so check them out - including several coordinates, and a stunning extra wide backing fabric (108in wide). I didn't get the whale picture panels, but they will be available from other retailers if you are really into whales (I'm not especially!)
It is very hard to convey the scale of this, so we have taken a photo where Glyn is holding up a chunk of the fabric - you can see how small his hand looks!
100% cottonNB - sold by the half metre, so order '2' for 1 metre, '3' for 1.5m etc.

NB - international shipping* is temporarily disabled. New shipping rates by weight will be coming soon!
*EU shipping can only resume when the EU simplifies its VAT regulations on mail orders. Please complain to your MEP to try to change the regs for small non EU businesses! We can't calculate, charge and remit the different amounts of VAT to all 27 EU countries four times a year, when we are one person businesses. It is too much admin and too expensive to employ an EU based agent as currently required.
