These little bundles of six sixteenths of a metre (25 x 26cm approx.) are perfect for mixing in with other scraps for a traditional boro inspired look. Fabrics are from the 'Peppered Cotton' range by StudioE (two tone shot cottons designed by USA quilter and sashiko enthusiast Pepper Cory, which are suitable for sashiko with fine 4 and 3-ply and medium 6ply sashiko threads, especially the 100m medium threads, which all all mercerised).
 
I love the depth of colour in these fabrics, and they remind me very much of early C20th cotton kimono linings, where deep blues, greys, and browns are used for men's kimono linings, and brighter and bolder colours like golds, russet and green were popular for young women's wear, especially for the lower hakkake lining in the kimono skirt, giving a flash of colour when the wearer walked.
 
The rich fall colours on the hillsides around Yamadera, the ‘mountain temple’ just outside of Yamagata city in early November were the inspiration for this fabric combination. Autumn leaves are appreciated in Japan just as much as the cherry blossoms in spring, with foliage viewing events in many parks and gardens.
 
This listing is for ONE mini boro bundle, but several are shown in the photos to give you a better view of the fabrics. Peppered Cottons have a slightly shiny, 'calendered' finish fresh from the bolt, which disappears when washed - the fabrics become more matte and the colours seem even more intense.
 
I add more bundles on different themes from time to time. It is easier (and more fun for me!) to make these bundles in one-off batches, rather than trying to repeat the same fabric assortment, so once these are gone, I may not repeat them.
