These little bundles of six sixteenths of a metre are perfect for mixing in with other scraps for a traditional boro inspired look. Fabrics are from Kaffe Fassett's shot cottons range for FreeSpirit fabrics. I love the depth of colour in shot cottons fabrics, and they remind me very much of early C20th cotton kimono linings, where deep blues, greys, and browns are used for men's kimono, with brighter and bolder colours were popular for young women's wear, but also meisen silk kimono, flat weave fabrics with ikat and shot weave effects, often in brilliant colours, which were the fashion kimono of the day for young women.

This bundle was inspired by an antique boro hanten work jacket in the collection at the Aoyama House museum in Yuza-machi. It was discovered in one of the huge kura storehouses on the site, which were crammed with the family's posessions going back to the middle of the nineteenth century. Of course, it wasn't really boro when it was made as a stunning piece of abstract, seemingly random patchwork, but with wear and tear it has become a piece of boro textile. It's lively piecing reminds me of some modern improvisational patchworks too.

This listing is for ONE mini boro bundle, but several are shown in the some photos to give you a better view of the fabrics.

I'll be adding more bundles soon. It is easier (and more fun for me!) to make these bundles in one-off batches, rather than trying to repeat the same fabric assortment, so once these are gone, I may not repeat them.100% cottonMade in India
