Love purples? This special murasaki-iro or purple boro inspiration pack could be just the right one for you.

I have remade this popular pack, with slightly different fabrics - new main photo will follow soon. The main difference is that the purples are now richer and darker.  I ran out of the very pastel purples in the main photo, but have added some more recent, bolder purples in including two of the Moda Ombre Woven stripes, the new deep purple from the Kofu Tsumugi range, and the bold purple in the lightweight linen look cotton. And there's also 14 pieces of fabric now, not the original 13.

This pack includes fourteen (previously 13) 25 x 27cm (approx.) assorted pieces cut from 106 - 110cm wide new fabrics in various shades of purples, ranging from pale lavender and greyish lilac to deep aubergine and imperial purple, plus a skein of #28 imperial purple fine 4-ply mercerised Yokota Daruma sashiko thread.Fabrics include - Azumino cotton (solid dyed and woven to look like a hand made cloth), shima woven stripe, and Kofu Tsumugi (slubbed yarn dyed shot cotton with a black weft and coloured warp) from Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.; two tone shot Peppered Cottons from Studio E and thinner two tone shot cottons designed by Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit, both woven in India; and fine Moda Ombre Wovens. The heavier Olympus and Peppered Cottons are also suitable for sashiko. The Olympus fabrics and Peppered Cottons are already available by the half metre on my website and I'll be adding the other fabrics shortly, if you want to get more fabric to coordinate with this pack. It isn't easy to capture the iridescent effect of the Peppered Cottons or the Kaffe Fassett shot cottons, so you'll just have to take my word for it that they all look far more lovely in real life than they do on screen!

4-ply fine sashiko thread is excellent thread for stiching boro, and one I use a lot. I recommend using the smaller sizes of Clover sashiko needles for stitching boro inspired work with this thread, as they will go through the fabric a little easier than the larger sashiko needles.

There is enough fabric to make a couple of boro tote bags following the free pattern on my TV & Free Stuff page (with extra fabric used for the bag foundation and handles). Boro inspiration packs were very popular when I launched them at the autumn World Textile Days in 2021 and I'm adding more online soon.
