Medium 6-ply mercerised sashiko thread 40m skein, shade #24 spring green (moegi-iro in Japanese) Daruma brand by Yokota. Suitable for all your sashiko and boro stitching.  Use doubled for a bolder effect. Can also be used for big stitch quilting.

Moegi-iro is a very ancient colour in Japan, one of the colours used in many different tints for the juni hitoe (twelve unlined robes) worn by ladies of the Imperial Court during the Heian era. It is literally 'sprout green' - think of all the new greens in springtime. One of my favourite colours.

This mercerised thread is the same weight as the other 100m 6-ply sashiko thread I sell, but has a different colour range. By selecting between these ranges, you can many subtle colour combinations. This shade is also available in 170m fine sashiko thread, so you can vary the thickness for your project while keeping to exactly the same colour.

Because it is mercerised, it won't 'shred' or go slightly fluffy when stitching.

Sashiko needles - may be used with any of the sashiko needles I sell.

  • Sashiko threads skeins have to be opened out before use. Slide of the skein band first. You will find all the thread is tied together at one point.  Cut through the skein at the knot, so all the threads are cut (you'll find these are the ideal length for stitching doubled).  Push all the thread through the skein band, and then plait the thread loosely.  Pull out each thread as you need it from the loop end of the plait, not the 'fringed' end. This saves time trying to wind the thread into a ball, keeps it tidy and you know the thread shade number if you need to re order.
