Love turquoise and teal? This special boro inspiration pack could be just the right one for you.
This pack includes ten 25 x 27cm (approx.) assorted pieces cut from 106 - 110cm wide new fabrics in various shades of turquoise, teal, and light blue, ranging from bright turquoise and intense teal to two tone yarn dyed fabrics with black weft threads, and tweedy light aqua blue, plus a choice of thread - one 100m skein of #12 turquoise medium 6-ply mercerised sashiko thread or shaded #171 'southern summer' (shaded thread packs are £1.25 more).Fabrics include - Sakizome Momen (a tweedy, marled thick cotton), Azumino cotton (solid dyed and woven to look like a hand made cloth), and Kofu Tsumugi (slubbed yarn dyed shot cotton with a black weft and coloured warp) from Olympus Thread Mfg. Co.; plus two tone shot Peppered Cottons from Studio E, woven in India; and Akita, a Japanese 80% linen, 20% cotton blend. These are all suitable for sashiko, and are already available by the half metre on my website. It isn't easy to capture the iridescent effect of the Peppered Cottons, so you'll just have to take my word for it that they all look far more lovely in real life than they do on screen!
6-ply medium mercerised sashiko thread is excellent thread for stiching boro, and one I use a lot. I recommend using the longer Clover sashiko needles from the packs of 8, or a medium needle from one of the other brand packs, for stitching boro inspired work with this thread, as they will go through the multiple fabric layers a little easier than the very large sashiko needles.
There is enough fabric to make a boro tote bags following the free pattern on my TV & Free Stuff page (with extra fabric used for the bag foundation and handles), and, if you are careful with your fabrics and don't overlap them too much, possibly a second, smaller bag. Boro inspiration packs were very popular when I launched them at the autumn World Textile Days in 2021 and I add more online from time to time.Fabrics made in JapanStudio E Peppered Cottons made in India

*EU shipping can only resume when the EU simplifies its VAT regulations on mail orders. Please complain to your MEP to try to change the regs for small non EU businesses! We can't calculate, charge and remit the different amounts of VAT to all 27 EU countries four times a year, when we are one person businesses. It is too much admin and too expensive to employ an EU based agent as currently required.
