'Celtic Christmas tree' sashiko panel INDIGO BLUE
This magical Celtic knotwork inspired design of a Christmas tree interpreted in sashiko is pre-printed with the exact stitch lengths, so it is suitable for all levels of sashiko stitch experience. Celtic Christmas Tree has been adapted for sashiko from an Urban Threads embroidery design and is printed in Australia for Indigo Niche. Back it or border it with another fabric of your choice - stripes look great, as in the photo from Indigo Niche. It could be embellished with beads or sequins for added sparkle, or you could add buttons or tiny decorations to dress your tree, but it looks lovely simply adorned with its shining star. Ideal as a seasonal wallhanging, large cushion or quilt centre, or link two panels with extra fabric to make a large table runner.
The photos show the indigo blue version, bordered with stripes and accented with sequins.
Total panel size is 17in square approx.
Suggested threads - choose your colours from the 20m medium sashiko thread range, or use the big value skeins in the 100m medium or 370m (4ply) fine sashiko thread ranges, using all these either singly or doubled for a bolder effect. 80m (3ply) fine sashiko thread could also be used doubled. The tree would look beautiful in various shades of green, including verigated greens like 20m #51, or golds, or in more traditional cream or white thread. The exact amount of thread used will vary according to whether you stitch with a single or doubled thread.
100% cotton fabric
I suggest edging the raw edges with a machine zigzag or narrow overlock stitch to prevent fraying before you start.
Printed with water-soluble ink - marks wash out - do not prewash!
